The 30-night trial

Use them for a month. Wash them, hang them badly, let the household do its worst. If they are not the softest towels you have owned, contact our customer service at support@sayu.co and we will arrange the return.

Warm off the rail and heavy in the hand: 100% long-staple cotton at 600 GSM, woven in a fine terry pile that stays soft wash after wash. A dense pile takes water on contact; the fine loop releases it again on the rail, so pieces dry between uses.

Every piece in the Spa-Soft line, measured flat:

  • Washcloth, 13 × 13 in
  • Hand towel, 28 × 16 in
  • Bath towel, 55 × 28 in
  • Bath sheet, 67 × 37 in

Free worldwide shipping on every order. Orders before 2:00 PM ET leave the same business day, delivered in three to five. Thirty nights to decide: use them, wash them, and if they are not right, contact support@sayu.co for the return instructions.

Warm wash, tumble dry low. No fabric softener and no dryer sheets, both leave a coating that blocks water. Wash once before first use to set the loop.

And the evening slows down

In Japan the bath is the slow end of the day, not a quick rinse. You sit in the heat until your shoulders drop, and what you reach for afterwards matters. This is that towel.

Your towels didn't wear out. They got coated.

A towel that stopped drying you is usually not worn out. It is coated. Fabric softener works by leaving a thin waxy film on the fibre, which is what makes laundry feel slippery, and a film that repels water is the last thing you want on the one thing in your house whose whole job is absorbing it.

Most towels arrive coated too. A softening finish is applied at the factory because it feels good in the shop. It washes out after a wash or two, which is exactly when people decide the towel has stopped working.

We build ours so it never needs any of it. Then we tell you to throw the softener out. It costs us a cross-sell and it saves your towels.

You can see the difference.

Same job, different towel. The difference is how much cotton is in it, and how long the fibres are.

The left column describes the typical lighter-woven towel sold at most department stores: 300–500 GSM, short-staple cotton. No brand in particular. It is most towels.

Asked before buying.

Why do you tell people to skip fabric softener?

Softener works by leaving a thin waxy film on the fibre. A film that repels water is the last thing a towel needs, so ours are soft from the weave instead. Skip the softener and they stay that way.

How many washes until they reach full softness?

One wash sets the loop. Expect a little lint in the first two washes; it settles, and the towels only get softer from there.

Do they really dry between showers?

Yes, with one honest note: dense towels want rail space. Hang them spread out rather than folded over a hook and they are dry before the next bath.

When does my order ship?

Orders before 2:00 PM ET leave the same business day and deliver in three to five days. Shipping is free on every order, and you have 30 nights to decide.

How can I pay?

All major cards, plus Shop Pay, Apple Pay and Google Pay. Shop Pay can also split the total into four interest-free payments.

Do you ship outside the US?

Yes, shipping is free wherever we deliver, and the currency switcher in the menu lets you shop and pay in your own currency.

How do returns work?

You have 30 nights. Use everything, wash it, decide slowly. If it is not right, email support@sayu.co and we will send you the return instructions.
